Cleveland produce man Lawrence Calabrese dies

The Packer

A face seen in Cleveland’s West Side Market for more than half a century is gone.

Lawrence Calabrese, who ran the Calabrese Produce stand for decades with his brother, died June 5 at Parma Community General Hospital, according to a Cleveland Plain-Dealer obituary. He was 90.

Calabrese started working at his parents’ stand as a child — they opened it in 1919 — and later ran it with his brother, Richard.

Larry’s nephew, Rick, runs the three-stall-wide stand today, according to the Plain-Dealer. He took it over in 1995, but Larry helped for another three years.
